Syracuse Opera Ensemble

Syracuse Opera Ensemble is the professional education outreach division of Syracuse Opera. We are pleased to present productions that are specifically designed to entertain and educate audiences of every age. We offer everything from innovative yet inexpensive introductory programs for kindergartens & first graders to complete operatic productions for elementary students & senior citizens. We also perform at festivals and special events.

Syracuse Opera offers a variety of programming, each designed for a specific audience.

  Don Pasquale Student Matinee - March 10, 2008
  Don Pasquale - fifth annual student matinee performance that enables students to experience a live opera. This will be a fully staged production with a cast of hundreds including the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and Syracuse Opera Chorus. The performance will be presented during the school day.

  Ready Set Opera!
  • Recommended Audience: Grades K-1
  • Length: 30 Minutes
  • 1 Singer and 1 Accompanist
  • 1 “Informance”: $265* / 2 (same day) : $495*
  This fun-filled “informance” is a program of short songs with fast-paced narrative depicting scenes from famous operas and operettas. Ready…Set…Opera! will stimulate young audiences by focusing their attention on the main ingredients that make an opera: story, singing, acting, make-up, costumes, and accompaniment. Highlights include children’s actual participation in the performance on stage!
   
 

The 3 Little Pigs

  • Recommended Audience: Grades: K-3 & Seniors
  • Length: 45 Minutes
  • 4 Singers and 1 Accompanist, complete sets w/costumes

  The Three Little Pigs is a new look at an old story using the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to enrich the plot. Adapted by John Davies, the story is similar to the traditional fairy tale but has several important differences.
   
  Never Tickle a Mule!
  • Recommended Audience: Grades 3-5
  • Length: 45 Minutes
  • 4 Singers and 1 Accompanist complete with sets & costumes
  • 1 performance: $ 695.00+ / 2 (same day): $1220.00+
  This uniquely American folk opera was originally commissioned and created by Syracuse Opera in 1995. It is based on authentic music, historic figures and news and events from the Erie Canal era. Never Tickle a Mule! portrays the life of the McCully family as they participated in the construction of and traveled, worked and lived on the Erie Canal. Third through fifth graders will love the rollicking tunes and jogs and will learn about “Clinton's Folly” and the “ditch” that changed New York.

Funding to create Never Tickle a Mule! was provided by: National Endowment for the Arts, the Fred L. Emerson Foundation, the MONY Foundation, Oswego BOCES Regional Arts in Education, and a major grant from Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest/Opera for a New America.
   
  The Telephone
  • Recommended Grades: 6-12, Adults and Seniors
  • Length: 30 Min.
  • 2 Singers and 1 Accompanist

  A humorous tale of a man who finds that he is competing with the telephone for his girlfriend’s attention. One act opera.
   
  Heroes & Villains
  • Recommended Grades 1-12 Adults & Seniors
  • Length: 45 Minutes
  • 3 Singer and 1 Accompanist
  • 1 Performance: $ 495.00* / 2 shows (same day) $ 895.00*
  Featuring some of Opera's most memorable, bigger than life "good guys" and "bad guys". Extraordinary barbersa, ghosts, gods, princes, witches and gypsies join forces to delight and inform audiences
